Bonnaroo Spacecraft

2008
I began construction of the Fallen Spacecraft as a site-specific object in 2001, but it has evolved into a work that invites multiple modes of presentation. In 2008 I was approached with an offer too generous to pass up, local business owner and art patron Alex Fisher of Portland offered to fund the entire endeavor of moving the piece from storage in Talmage, Kansas to Manchester, Tennessee in order for it to be a part of the huge music and arts festival known as "Bonnaroo." Fallen Spacecraft was installed at night before the festival's start. For the duration of the festival the ship was placed on its side with hatch open, without text, signage or any manner of explanation as to its origin or intent. The reason for this is simple; I feel it encourages and allows for each viewer/recipient to decide for themselves what the work is, or is not, without undue 'direction' from the artist.
