Randy Regier Bio

I was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1964. As a child we moved around a bit, Barcelona, Spain and Newton, Kansas were both home until we moved west and settled in Pratum, Oregon in the early 1970s. My dad has been an auto-bodyman, farmer and minister; my mother has been a bookbinder and quilter for over 30 years. In Oregon I worked in the auto-body industry, restored and repaired antique toys, and was a free-lance cartoonist. I moved with my wife and two children to Abilene, Kansas in 1997 to start a new life. In Kansas I was first able to attend a university, and it was at Kansas State that I was first encouraged to take myself and my art intentions seriously. After a long and troubled walk in Kansas one night, I made the difficult decision to stop drawing my daily comic strip and turn all my efforts and resources towards my more 'fabricated' arts. In 2004 Vicki, the kids and I walked the 800 plus kilometers that constitute the "French Route" of the Camino de Santiago en Spain, and it was then that I made the decision to pursue a terminal art degree. In 2005 we moved to Portland, Maine to undertake my graduate studies, and thanks to a phenomenal grant from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation I was able to obtain my MFA at the Maine College of Art, completing it in 2007. We are currently living in Portland, Maine, where I am working as an artist.
